Blitz Bike: Dented cageUpdated 10 months ago

Swapping out a dented cage for an entirely new one is a time-consuming and extensive repair since it involves removing multiple parts, including the cage, fan, belt and other small components.

Instead, we recommend reversing the dents in the cage just enough for the fan to operate freely. If you're willing to do this, we're happy to offer a $50 refund or $100 in-store credit on the price you paid for the Blitz Bike.

Please find below two sets of instructions. Option #1 usually gives a better end result but takes more time. Option #2 tends to result in a less visually-appealing cage but is a faster fix.

Option #1

Click here for a walk-thru video.

  1. Ensure that you have the following tools available: Philips screwdriver and wedge (another screwdriver works well)

  2. Loosen and remove 3-4 of the screws that join the cage halves together, set screws aside

  3. Gently pry apart the cage halves to pop off the joining brackets

  4. Stick the wedge (handle of your extra screwdriver) between the cage halves

  5. Carefully slide your fingers between the cage halves

  6. Test the fan's operation by slowly turning the pedals

  7. If there is no contact between the fan and the cage, remove the wedge

  8. Rejoin the cage halves using the joining brackets

  9. Replace and tighten the joining bracket screws

Alternatively, you could opt for this faster but more cosmetically unappealing fix.

Option #2

  1. Get a pair of flat-nose pliers

  2. Leave all screws intact

  3. Located the dented area of the fan cage

  4. Using the pliers, grab and pull on the middle section the dented wire to reverse the dent

  5. Work your way outwards in the same way, to gently reverse the dent in the whole wire

  6. Perform Step 4 & 5 for all remaining dented wires

  7. Test the fan by slowly turning the pedals to ensure it operates without obstruction
